Default Which shim do I use on my diff?

I am putting a used itr lsd in my '96 gsr tranny. I purchased 2 new diff sealed ball bearings to put on it but I heard I might need to change the shim on the one of the new diff bearings. There is like 17 different sized shims from 1.00-1.75. Does anybody know what size I would need? Thanks for looking and for helping!

every case, diff and bearing set will be different, so there is not one size u will need. it has to be set up with just the diff and the case put back together and side clearance needs to be checked and adjusted till within spec. sorry i dont rememebr what they r right now.

Get the feeler gauges out and measure what the total distance of the space between the bearing and case is. Then look at what shim size will fill that space to end up with .000"-.004". Usually, I shim for around .001"-.002".

there is supposed to be 2 shims on the bottom and 1 on top when using a taper bearing setup. when using a shielded bearing setup, i believe it is okay to use the thicker of the 2 shims on the bottom and reuse the other one on top. it will make up for lost space since you are using the shielded bearings

any one care to chime in on this??
