Cable or Hydro trans.?
I just got a crx and I am going to put a swap in it, maybe turbo it. I would like to know if I should use a hyrdo or cable trans.? Also if you think I should use the hydro trans. tell me why and what conversion to use?
thanks
thanks
People will debate back and forth on this all day. To be honest......it doesnt matter it's all a matter of personal preference. Now before someone comes in and yells at me that Hydro is 100% better and is the way to go, i'll admit a couple of things........Yes Hydro definately has a mechanical advantage over cable, that is 100% without a doubt. But without a stage 9238592837598275 clutch or you have a broken ankle.......who cares. The advantage of a Hydro tranny is simply that, the ease of pedal effort. However i've also seen the systems unable to release the clutch when a upgraded pressure plate was installed because the hydraulic system wasnt able to handle the extra effort required. It all goes on personal prefference to be honest with you. Do you mind a little extra leg power to push a upgraded pressure plate setup? If not they go with cable, they're easy as pie to install/ adjust and don't require the mod of a hydro system, plus.......less to go wrong. I'm 100% positive multiple people will get on here and disagree with me, but like I said this is just my personal opinion talking. I would rather pick up a cable tranny for a swap because 1: easier install, 2: people sell them MUCH cheaper becuase a hydro tranny is "waaaaaay better"
^^Agreed.. But your going to need clutch pedal set up for hydro, your going to have to get all the lines and the reservoir some other miscellaneous bullshit. Personally I've owned both can't complain really minus the slave master cylinder(located on the hydro clutch pedal) that builds the pressure to in gauge the clutch, dumped out on my 97 ex when I had it for a year but its probably was pressed down oh say 89182737891 times in its life. Now my rex I have has the cable and like chad said its personal preference go drive both if you haven't and then go from there. But all in all they both do their job but the hydro is a LOT smoother in my book.
i have gsr hydro in my ef and love it.... BUT it's still cable activated... lol
I love the clutch/petal feel of a cable ativated clutch but love having newer tranny and more choices & cheaper cost of the hydro series.

Shoot from what I've heard about them they do their job but they're not the greatest ever at that point to might as well collect all the little things that I mentioned its wayyyyy cheaper. Find someone who's parting out a 92-95 civic with a hydro and you'll be good. My personal choice would be get the full set up out of 1 of those civics and call it a day, its not as hard as it seems, its just a brake line that pumps the fluid to the trans, put in the reservoir, & pedals run some hoses and its cake.

another reason for choosing the hydro tranny is the availability. cable b series transmissions were only around for a few years. hydro were obviously around for a bit longer.
This isnt of a B-series but an F20b. The idea is the same. We used the clutch cable on this CRX until it finally broke. ACT Extreme pressure plate. We eventually went with a full Hydro set up.
