just as the title says, i usually go about 1/2"-5"8" before i stop to reposition, i just cant rotate the torch and stay very steady while doing so. how far does everyone else go before stopping?

Depends on size of piece, assuming your talking about round, 1 -1.5 in. Are you resting your hand on the work piece?

 

yeah i should have been more specific. when but welding sch pipe for manifolds, im not worried about rod size or any details like that just how far u go on 1 /14" or 1 1/2" sch pipe, thanks guys.

about 3/4" - 1"

 

i would say an inch tops on the smaller pipe/tubing before repositioning.

 

Schedule 1.5 material, about 3/4"; 3" pipe, I can go 2-3"

 

What position? I try to go all the way around if it's physically possible which it isnt always.

 

hmm, i guess i just need more practice with this stuff, ive done a total of 4 turbo manifolds in like 6 years (i do mainly aluminum and odds and ends steel here and there) i need to start welding more of this stainless pipe, it think thats the key to getting the welds where i want them.

depends how i position the runners but normally i can do a full weld with stoping on 2 times, smaller diameter pipe is way harder. when i weld 3''+ i cant weld half the pipe easly bc its a slower transition
