Default mugen or hytech

I was in the market for an h/e set up to launch off my R modification but really couldn't decide whether or not to invest in the full hytech exhaust system which included the header, cat and exhaust. So i gave them a ring the other day and was quoted $2100 dollars on the full setup. They inquired that i would have to leave them some parts to have them modify(shaved) due to clearance issues. I thought it would be a little cheaper then the mugen, but since it isn't, i'm sort of opting toward the mugen. Which modification would be best applicable toward a N/A setup? if anybody could give some informative input; yet even better a better price, it would be much appreciated.

What's your definition of "NA setup"? If you're not planning extensively modding your motor, don't bother wasting the dough on the Hytech. To be honest, I wouldn't waste the money on the Mugen piece(s) either. That's just me though

Then which stock sounding/looking exhaust would you recomend if our route is "merely" bolt-ons?

What is required to have this installed? I assume it comes in pieces, but do we have to leave the car at Hytech or can any muffler shop around here do the same job? Also, how much would installation cost?

Alex - who needs more $$$

Hytech is better than EVERYTHING on the market that is JDM. The only real competitor is SMSP. So the question you must ask is Hytech better than SMSP

I like the SMSP set up. Call Dave and get a quote from him before you decide.

Spoon Header + Amuse R1 Titanium Exhaust

Hytech sure does shown good gains in power but I dont think they can offer anymore than the Amuse R1 cuz it is underaxle and weighs 8 lbs only.

I'm real happy with my HyTech setup. Very good quality and good power gains after tuning as we've seen with Austin's setup. I'm still waiting for when I can dyno and tune mine. It's very quiet too but still has a distinctive sound that I'm thouroughly enjoying. SMSP makes a good system too similar to this, you can't go wrong with either.

Header size in comparison to the standard stock location header like the Mugen, Spoon, etc. I believe the SMSP is even a little longer than this.

HyTech exhaust system (2.5") including cat.

Installed on my car

you mean the great BOLT on header test...

where there was no tuning or other aftermarket parts involved...

basically a stock r....

it's almost obvious that you will not see the full potential of a header/cat-back
from the hy-tech or smsp unless you do more than just bolt the header on.

same applies to turbo kits. you can just bolt the puppy on...
but more will be realized through tuning/other aftermarket mods.
