Honda Accord - Paint Near Wheel Rusting
Hello All,
I own a 1993 honda accord and the paint near the wheel has started rusting and I've only recently noticed. You can see from the pictures attached below:
Is there any special way to patch it up to the rust part? Am I able to do it myself? If so, is it a relatively easy task to do? Thanks for your help.

let me guess: you live where it snows. rust in those areas is usually coming from the back side of the panel due to road salt corrosion and can't be covered up. the rust will have to be cut out and the panel will have to be patched.

My understanding of the process here is that the rusted metal is cut/sanded/ or otherwise removed. Then a metal patch is welded or otherwise adhered to the backside of said panel, and the hole through the panel is filled with body filler/bondo or whatever you would like to cal it. Then sanded, and it is ready to paint.
if you've never done body work, stay away from it. the paint will have to be ground off and the panel cut to expose the "actual" rusted out area (it's much larger than it looks since it's on the back side.) the patch panel will have to be welded in very carefully.

you can use the entire panel or cut off what you need.

Should I just get an autoshop to work on it? How much do you think it would cost? parts and labor?
by your asking if it's easy, i assume you have never done it. It's fairly complicated to cut the original panel and make the new patch fit correctly. once you have done that, it has to be tack welded, ground, filled, sanded, primed, sanded, sealed, and top coated. entire quarter panel will have to be painted along with the rear door blended to match it. you would be best off having it done at a shop.
probably $500-700 per side as a wild guess. just get estimates from a few shops. usually free.

Old thread I know...I keep seeing links to 90-93 Accord quarter panel patch panels but they are all for sedans. However, I have a 2 door. My rust is in the same typical spot - back part of quarter panel near the bumper cover...will that section of the "sedan" patch panels work on my 2-door?

Car guy all my life - I race Fords but my old standby daily driver is a 92 Accord! 240k miles and runs strong as ever - all stock. It's time to freshen up the outside and I need to tackle this rust first.
Thanks for the help,
Mike
