del sol block swap help
Hey guies, I've got a 94 del sol vtec w/ a auto trans and I just spun a rod or something in the block. I have 2 d15 blocks out of a crx dx and a hf and I have a 5 speed out of a crx si. My question is wether or not I can swap in one of these blocks coupled with the trans into my sol and if so wich axles should I use? Any advise is appriciated. thanks
I wouldn't use the trans or the d15s they motors are obd0 and the trans is a cable as opposed to a hydro trans they do have kits to switch from hydro to cable but its cheaper to just use a hydro trans I payed 30 bux for my si trans and your best bet would be to just get another obd1 motor not saying that a obd0 motor can't be used it would just be rather difficult not a direct drop in and if u do a 5 speed swap u will need a new ecu as well its a p28 if u get another d16z6 assuming that's what you already have
Would you be swapping the entire engine or just the short block?
If just the short block, what obd it is doesnt matter one bit.
Yes you can, but why would you ever want to convert a hydro car to cable?
The blocks can swap in just fine, but the tranny wont.
You need to search you could have found this answer.

The only reason I'm doing this swap is because I got the car for $350 so I don't want to throw money at it. I would only be swapping in the short block b/c the vtec head is still good and the trans is still good so I'll be leaving both those in. The only reason I considered swapping the obd0 trans in is because its a 5 speed with a brand new stage 1 clutch.
Since the rest is all okay, I'd stick to the b-series. People can be found selling B16 shortblocks for $3-400 w/o any issues. You can also find complete B18B's for the same price, which make for a better DD (more torque). Or you can combine them and run LS/Vtec. Regardless of what you do, you can always part it out and not loose money (assuming you don't buy tons of OEM honda parts)
Otherwise you'll have to get a hydro-to-cable kit, custom rear/trans mounts (not sure who makes hydro2cable mounts for an automatic car), a del sol-specific d-series shift linkage, drill the appropriate holes for the linkage, deal with the cold air coming into the shift hole unless you seal it, and source some decent d-series axles (1988-2000 except hf/std). You'll also have to swap to the correct ecu, or get yours chipped & converted to manual.
If that is a 1989+ year model trans/clutch, you can use that flywheel & clutch with the hydro tranny. IMO using a hydo tranny is the only reasonable option here, so add another $75-200 to your d-series estimate.
Cliffs: the only difference with the d-series stuff: more time-consuming, slower, and a little more fuel efficient.
