Icon2 Axle seperation during shock change?

I've never encountered this before, and I believe I've exceeded my abilities. I was in the process of changing the shocks on my friend's 2002 Civic Si. We pulled out the strut assembly, transferred the spring and top plate to another shock, and when I went to re-install the new setup, the brake rotor won't get back into the vertical position. The top of the rotor was tilted out a good 45 degrees.

When I try to get it back into place, I hear a **thud*** from the inner boot on the axle. There is something obviously preventing me from just lining it back up. I think I somehow separated the axle when I let the rotor hang down.

What are my options at this point?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Carlos

if it did pull out of the knuckle you can fix it one of two ways. one way would be to without removing the boot to line the bearings back up or pull the boot off so you can visibly see how to line them back up.
