well get a ratchet... and put it on the nut real REAL good. Then step on the ratchet arm. DONT STOMP!! put one foot on... then balance with the other. Get a hand on the car and raise your other foot. be prepared for a sudden drop... poof! now you can continue.

 

and if your ratchet wont support your or falls off then you might need position the ratchet so that the arm points toward the ground. Turnaround and give the ratchet arm a little heel boot. You may need someone to hold it on. Give it about 4 little boots.

 

dont use a ratchet

thats a good way to break tools, If you have the correct socket and a breaker bar, you can have a buddy step on the brakes while you pull like hell on it. or you can give it a few good hits with an air impact wrench. Please dont break a perfectly good ratchet. Use the correct tools for the correct job. IE: dont use a hammer to take a valve cover bolt out!!

 

on the breaker bar part...

Doesn't matter how great of a ratchet it is, if you put your whole weight on it, you're probably going to break it. Get a good quality breaker bar. Try it first without stepping on it, but if need-be, you may have to apply a little force with your body weight. Make sure you have a good quality breaker bar though, I've bent and/or busted the heads off of crappy no-name breaker bars before just pulling on them..

If you REALLY need it, get a long pipe and stick that over the end of the breaker bar... BUT, if you do this, and you break your breaker bar, they probably won't replace under any kind of "lifetime guarantee".

 

1/2 inch drive breaker bar w/ a 32mm socket usually works, or of course the impact tools which are much easier.

BUT i have come across the axel nuts that will just NOT come off. if you can keep one side of the car on the ground, do so, if not .. no biggie, just have a friend get on the brakes. i had to use a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar w/ a 1 1/4" socket (they didn't have metric sizes for the 3/4 inch drive, and this is the perfect size socket for it, no need to worry about stripping it). use the breaker bar w/ a ~4ft piece of pipe, make sure it's on the nut good, and as quick as you can, give it a quick jolt, and it should break free in a hurry .
