So should I pre-lube the gasket before installation? I did but I still am seeing some oil and I don't want to over-tighten the bolts and have them break. So my next step in trying to get this leak fixed is replacing the cam seal, already got the o-ring done on the distributor.

a little oil on the new gasket is a good idea. spray the area with brake cleaner after you get done and it will be good and clean. then look to see if you still have a leak after you test drive.

 

Good so the oil on the gasket was not a mistake, I've broken bolts before and maybe I'm just being a paranoid pansy about torquing them down!

 

Just a little bit more info turns out the cam seal was leaking. After that my engine is dry as a dead dingo's donger.

 

yea my cam seal was completely shot and oil was leakin outa that ***** like crazy. replaced it with a golden eagle cam cause it has 3 o-rings rather than the OEM 1 that has 1 o-ring and no leak.
