Default EJ1 Cupholder/Console

Now I know there is an optional audio console for the 92-95 Civic, however I cannot seem to find it in tan. Looking through several threads Ive noticed mostly people using that. In my travels, I havent found what alternatively fits (years and types). I would definately like a better designed cup holder/location, preferably something I can swap in with a small amount of modifications other the OAC. Does anyone have pics/suggestions/knowledge of what other things might work out for the 92-95 Coupe. Incidently, I do have the armrest on the back of the shifter console and for the life of me, still cant understand why honda didnt do that in the first place (I had no armrest when I got the car)

Thanks for any info!

you can get a single din cup/coin holder for an early 90's ford taurus. it will replace either your climate controls or radio. then you have to relocate what ever you decided to replace. you can put your radio in the glove box or build a custom housing. you wont find a tan optional audio console easily. i would put a WANT AD here in the market place. i know their are people on here that are not using theirs.

I have seen the EK lower console installed back to the armrest. It doesn't fit 100% but it looks pretty good in there.

The OEM 92-95 optional audio console is good, but having cupholders is also nice.

Fair enough I suppose. I dont know what the EK lower console looks like yet, but I will post the wanted ad as I do want something that sucks less than the stock cupholder BS. (Apparently in the mid 90's no one knew what a 1.00 Mickey D's tea was"

Optional armrest is what i use for a cupholder. Alternatively you could just put your drink inbetween the ebrake and seat.

There isn't really an ideal solution, as far as I've found, so far.

Here are some options, none of which are perfect.

This is the OEM USDM Optional Console. (Just sold it on eBay.) The P.O. installed a 1.5DIN pocket with cupholder tray. It's nice, but wtf are you going to do with the remaining 0.5DIN space? Would be nice if it was a 1.5DIN pocket or had something to fill up that space. While I didn't install it, I am quite sure from experience that the cup holder will have the same problem as the one I currently run with below.

This is my OEM EDM Optional Console. Originally it had a pocket in there with slots for cassette tapes (Left). Not really useful at this day in age. I took that out and replaced with a 1DIN coin tray/cup holder I picked up (Right, in background - sorry for photo, it was taken to show the JDM OEM leather shift boot).

Unfortunately, the design of the console was never intended to hold anything other than the original cassette holder, so it does not have brackets to hold a 1DIN radio - nor anything else designed to be mounted in a 1DIN slot. The coin tray/cup holder is currently mounted with everyone's favourite: zip ties. And, due to its location, nothing larger than a soft drink can will fit in it (hits the underside of the dash) - so not ideal.

My next move is to mount the coin/cup in the slot for the head unit, and move the head unit down to the console. This will require designing brackets to mount the unit, and extending its wiring. Not fun, but better.

Another option is the EDM Optional Console with the upper DIN slot. This piece is pretty rare. And expensive: someone recently bid about $185 on eBay for it. Crazy.

This piece of course won't fit anything but the smallest espresso cup between the console and the dash - but that's not the point. According to the eBay auction, this console is made to fit a DIN component so you could swap your head unit into there, install cup holders above. However, whether this is actually possible or whether you'll be fabbing brackets up is difficult to assess from the photos I have of it. Doesn't really show me how a head unit can be mounted - eg., I would expect more things on the inside for stuff to mount to.
