dyno wants me to bring car there before starting it?
ok the build: 82mm b18c1 block with stock everything except 82mm usdm b16a pistons from inlinefour.com, b16a head with rc 310s, standard compression valves and skunk 2 pro 1 cams, going into 95 ex.
i called the tuner a week ago and asked about them programming my ecu based on my specs so i could get the car there for them to tune. they said no, better to bring it in and have them start it for first time and break it in on dyno etc. etc. (they have some sort of break in package, upsell?)
does this make sense? (i know it would be ideal, but how do i know it wont leak something everywhere because of my mistake and then ill get charged for whatever they had to do to fix? then theyll hate me) ive read about mailing your ecu off and giving them your specs and theyll mail it back ready to go until you can get it fine tuned.. just not sure what i should do. i already bought the torco break-in oil. could i get the car there, 20 miles, on stock p28 programming? i doubt it. im torn, please help

makes some sense to me, my last major motor build i had broken in on the dyno....although i did start it at home to make sure everything was legit before taking it. depending on the shop it is a possibility they want more business from you if it breaks down but im assuming thats worse case scenario. Rent a Uhaul trailer! its only like 40 bucks.

thanks for response, i see where theyre coming from but ive pieced this motor together, most parts new, some used and i want to make sure it all works... like the 35 dollar gsr distributor i got ha. the main problem is my stock p28 programming, id be surprised if the motor even ran. anyone have any experience with phearable.net? at least i could then ballpark the first tune enough to check it all and then get it to the dyno
trailer it. fresh build - you don't want to at the minimum wash the cylinders/ dilute the oil, at the maximum crack something due to it pinging at just the right amount of load during that trip ; )
if it's a reputable shop you shouldn't have to worry about them telling you unnecessary things. if you doubt them you might want to consider another tuner, they need to be trusted 100%. if jeff evans told me to do something with my build, i'd do it. he knows more than i do about this stuff, plain and simple, and i probably know more than many enthusiasts.

yeah they seem pretty strict and no-bullshit, which is a good sign i guess. theyre probably trying to avoid the dummies... which i hope i am not. thanks for your responses, tow it up there i shall..
