Default Dyno of my car, very dissapointing :(

Someone was begging to put my car into their car magazine, and at first I didn't want to do it because of the state of my engine (leaking valves from a very bad port'n'polish job from my old garage, plus a very basic ECU tune-up since my ECU guy had to run off to China for 2 weeks on business) but then they offered me a free run on the dyno, so I thought what the hell.. this dyno was undertaken on a 35°C day. (I ran into the air-conditioned room after it was over, I swear I was gonna dehydrate!!)

boosting at 14psi, and with no one to tune the car, I just had to watch in disgrace as they took my car to 6500 rpm with a lean reading on my A/F meter. I've decided to buy another SOHC head, and get it done right this time, plus change the backing of the turbo to something smaller (full boost at 4500rpm is disgraceful!). Also plan on getting the ECU tuned on the dyno rather than "on the road". Compression ratio is at 8.2:1, i'm thinking of upping that to about 8.5:1, maybe 9:1 (is that too high? my internals are strong, I have pistons, connecting rods, and a blockguard - the block has not been sleeved). If any of you have some suggestions (anything other than suggesting a B-series engine swap) then please speak

I've already asked for an SAE corrected HP graph.. will pick it up and scan it tomorrow
try squinting your eyes to make the graph blurry - it'll make the lines smoother

I wasn't talking about smothening the lines. I wanna see those HP's converted from kw to Sae. Correct me if im wrong but aren't those in metric?

8.2:1 is low, I would bump it up to 8.5 at least. I think 9.0:1 at 14PSI may be too high, so talk to a tuner about that. 35C is not the kind of day to make a dyno run, so it figures that the car would have trouble. Even if it was tuned great, at 35C you're going to get a **** dyno chart.

8.2:1 is way too low...so is 8.5:1. You arent boosting like 60psi. That compression should be around 9:1 at least...

1kW = 1.341 hp

So that is : 177.8 x 1.341 = 238.43 hp.

Nathan, how's things been going? Remember me off of Hondamod? I got bored with the stupid people on there too....

So... finally dyno'd it... at a more reasonable temp, that 240 should easilt be 270 HP... BUT in you're part of the world, I can imagine it's hot ALOT of the time....

Woah.. is that the "Jody" SiR Kid?

yeah i got sick of the place too, so many newbies coming into the boards asking stupid questions. atleast they have smart ppl on honda-tech hehe

yeah i'm not too happy with the figures.

just for comparison, a B16A civic (similar internal mods as myself) with a KKK K26 turbo boosting at 10psi got 285HP on the dyno.. so I was expecting atleast 200HP minimum (not like a SOHC VTEC could get figures as high as a DOHC VTEC engine anyway). Oh well.. its not game over yet, at least this dyno will show me and the ECU guy where to improve on, and what to "fix"

I'm still happy that I can trail all these Lancer Evolution 3s and 4s roaming about the streets of Bangkok - they get a bit of a fright when they see a Civic keeping up with them.. hehe

DragIIcivic: I used to run with stock compression and stock internals at 8psi. My car was extremely responsive back then.. practically no boost lag at all, almost felt like a SC, but with more torque but the engine only lasted about 3 months then I broke a few things inside.. so I don't think stock compression would be such a good idea..

97CivicFerio/Blown90hatcH: i'd love to go up to 9:1, but i'm just wondering what would be safe for maximum boost. We have 95 octane pump gas here, and I have a fully programmable ECU, so ignition can be fully tuned. What do u think Jody? I *hope* i'll get a noticable incrase in torque and HP with the higher compression though.. if not, i may as well play it safe and stick with the 8.2:1 compression

Dude, 9.0:1 will work a lot better. 1.2 bar is not all that much really. Since the bottom end is built, you're fine.

hmm, why did you even let them continue on the dyno if you saw it was going lean. I would have pulled the guy out of my car and punched him if he stayed on the gas.
