What is sealer?
Hello everyone, I'm new here and have a pretty quick question for repainting my car.
I was reading this thread https://honda-tech.com/forums/paint-body-84/should-i-primer-my-car-b-4-new-paint-2500573/ (I'm pretty much in the same boat), and saw that the guys kept talking about putting a layer of sealer over the existing paint... what exactly are they talking about? Can somebody link me to some place that shows me what the technical name is, and where to buy it? Or at least give me a place and item number so I can look it up, so I know what I'm looking for
. Thanks in advance.

a thin primer you spray over high build primer after it has been wet sanded. i use this stuff made by sem called metalock. it works as a high build and a sealer. to use it as a sealer, you just add the proper ratio of reducer.
also, if you are painting over a straight body with no oxidation in the paint, there is no need for high build and you can go straight to the sealer after the paint is properly scuffed. but if you dont know what sealer is, i suggest leaving the painting up to the pros. its a tough process of painting a car and for an amateur to spray a whole car without issues is not realistic.
Sealer is basically an intercoat primer. It's used to "lock in" whatever surface its sprayed on bumpers, metal, bodywork., etc. Every major paint brand makes a sealer so it shouldnt be hard to find but if you are sealing over bodywork i suggest you use a 2part sealer, this will reduce any chance of your bodywork showing back through if you are sealing bodywork.
