may I show you my box?
My last two subwoofer enclosures were "professionally" made. This is the first time I've ever tried one myself (having never done any woodworking before). Anyways calculated my box size for 1 cubic foot internal volume with 3/4" MDF. Bought wood at noon. Had it marked up and had old neighbor guy cut it at 3pm. By 6pm had this:

By 11pm had this:

Easy to remove and it sounds so much better than my wildest dreams. So much better than the pros.
Oh this belongs in another forum? Fack me.

excellent job on the box. did you seal it up good? even those extra predrilled holes on the face of the box? next time around skip the terminal plate and just drill a hole. not sure why you put all those corner protector things on unless you plan on rolling your sub down a hill. is that the infinity perfect12?
that is a tight box huhuhu ... however may make a couple suggestions to you.
I've built a million friggen boxes as an installer over a couple summers and its best IMO to:
use finishing nails, NOT screws. and always elmers wood glue the edges and inside (which it appears you did glue) in adition to silicone sealant on the joint. ensures she'll never become a rattle trap!
Ironically this weekend I built a new box for my 3 x JL 10-W6D6's ... mad quad up in here.

Thanks all.
Yup, it's a single voice coil 4 ohm Kappa Perfect 12.1. I used drywall screws and drilled pilot holes to be sure. Overkill. Wood glue on all connections and then silicone caulk on all seems afterwards. What makes this one sound better is I lined the sides with "polyfill" and got the volume to exactly 1728 cubic inches internal and did exactly whan Infinity recommended.
I'm not sure why I put the speaker terminals on there... I'll probably end up bypassing them but leaving it there and carpeting over it becuase it's already sealed up real tight there.

MichaelWhy would finishing nails be better than screws? The only thing I can think of is that it would be cheaper if you were making them for re-sale but if I am making it for myself I cannot imagine not using screws.
Michael
well since you will never take a box apart.. why bother with screws? finishing nails hold just as well when its glued/sealed.
when you work fast in a shop a nailgun using 4p finishing nails is a lot quicker than pilot drilling and then screwing.

its press board yO!
kinda like plywood, except they use smaller chips of wood, then they put it under extremly high amounts of pressure to form press board. hehe
but at a second glance, looks like tan colored carpet or material of some incarnation.

AH SHAT. I dunno. I paid retail at http://www.crutchfield.com. These subs sound great when they're working, but I just noticed air gushing sound coming from woofer perimeter. Yep, the surround has separated from the basket at one point, about an inch long.
So I have a second identical driver... I check it out... it's even worse. So I just peeled back the entire surround on the extra woofer, prepped the surface, and glued it back on with the strongest adhesive I could find. It's gotta cure 24 hours before I found out if it'll work...
I mean Infinity makes some decent home speakers... I should stuck with a name known for making subs damn I wish Velodyne had car subs. Oh wait maybe they do I'll check 'em out.
