What's up! I have a 94 DX hatch and after driving it for a few months now I noticed some rattling noise. It's definately coming from the front end and when you reach down in the engine bay and grab what I think is the rack and pinioin boot it has alot of play. When standing in front of the bay it's right behind the axles. Just wondering if that is the rack and pinion before I buy replacements. Anything will help! Thanks!!!

 

Maybe the rack is fine, but a bolt is loose. Post pictures of the part where you feel the free play.

 

Here are a couple of pictures of where I feel the free play. If you grab the boot in the red circle you can shake it back and forth. Would this be the rack and pinion?

 

That is the rack and pinion. The part inside the bellows that you have circled is the inner tie rod end. I suspect that it is the inner tie rod and that is bad.

 

So could I just replace the inner tie rod if I wanted or would I have to get a new rack and pinion?
