B7 head shave/mill
Hi I was wondering what would be a good amount to shave my d15b7 head and what head gasket to use to get the compression ratio to 10.4-10.7. Your help would bble greatly appreciated.
Check the FAQ for the compression ratio calculator and play around with it. You'll be able to determine roughly how much you need to take off to achieve your desired target compression ratio.
Okay thank you. I know this is a dumb question (sorry, new to hondas) but if I bought a d16y8 head gasket set would everything else that comes with the kit like the cam seal and stuff like that fit my d15b7?
I wish I could tell you off the top of my head but I can't (headgasket itself is usable though). You can check out www.thehondapartsstore.com (or similar website) and look up the part numbers for each seal and see if they are the same.
you can use that head gasket, yes. the seal should be identical as well.
when looking up part numbers remember that even though it might be the same part honda very well could have different numbers, especially between generations.
you are going to have a hard time reaching that compression via simple milling. it's hard to say because of the combustion chamber shape changing when milling, but i'd say you would have to approach .050 before you get in your desired range.
as a guide, i do not ever remove more than 30 thousandths from a head, unless it's a junk head without port work, etc. it leaves practically no room if you end up warping it and need it milled.
.030 would leave you at 10:1, basically.
Okay thanx everybody for your help. This is going into a circle track race car and I am just trying to get a little more power and I knew that head work wouldn't be too terribly hard. Just out of curiousity, what I'd the maximum I could shave the head with a stock b7 headgasket?
