i know there's the VSS in the front but on the back near the shift linkage i see another plug and i can't find any plug near it to plug it into.
putting a new motor in so not sure if this was not used before or not, can't remember.

Number of wires? Wire colors?

Could it be an A/T harness you're putting on an MT by any chance?

 

Looks like three pins. Don't know the plug so don't know wire colors. Harness is MT And couch is m2f4. Can someone check real quick.....its by the shift linkage.

 

I have a harness sitting next to me.. the only other 3 wire ones are EGR and the throttle angle sensor (on the throttle body).

I'd say the EGR valve is decently close to the VSS..

 

VSS is in the back near the shifter linkages .. Reverse switch is more near the front

 

Here is a pic. I also don't know what this is but it has two lines running to it.

It is not the TPS or EGR...i was trying to rule everything out to.

I think possibly this could have a plug that goes to the car...instead of the wire harness if that makes sense. kind of like how the brake fluid reservoir does, but this seems more important

The VSS plug has 3 wires, orange | black/yellow | black

It's short, only sticks off the thick part of the harness about 6 inches or so...

 

IDK for sure but it looks like you only got the bottom half of the VSS in the tranny, the top half is what actually has the wire with plug for the harness. Any way you can get a closer pic of the VSS ?

Yup, that's the reverse switch.
