DIY painting a front lip- wetsanding after?
Hey guys I'm painting a front lip with paint matched rattle can paint- I used flex fill primer then wet sanded- then did my main coats and everything is done more or less- Ill let it cure for 24 hrs - then do I wet sand? if so how/what?
Did you have any runs or fish eyes? That will basically determine what grade of paper to start with. I would start with 1000 (the coarsest I would use), and work up to 1500 then 2000. Soak your paper in water with a drop of dish soap in it, this will keep the water slick, and make sure that the area you are working is constantly wet. You cannot use too much water, but can definitely use too much. After the wet sanding there is still one more step. Hit it with some sort of rubbing compound to level out all of the remaining fine sanding marks and really bring the color back out. You could also hit it with a less aggressive silicone free polishing compound afterwards to add some shine. Do not seal/wax the lip for a at least 60 days I would suggest.
i think he meant you cannot use too much water, but can definately use too little....and thats true..i just got a lip for mine and rattle canned it...turned out pretty nice
