Default Altenator problem? PLZZ HELP ASAP

OK so i replaced my old batt and i put in my new batt and it worked fine for a day... then i noticed my batt light came on and i thought maybe my my altenator belt loose tighten it a little then it went away... then it came back and i thought ok maybe loose terminal so tighten them and then Just now i was driving and the bat light came on and i was like **** cause i was away from my house so i was rushin home my RPM gauge was jumping but the car was idling fine then the rpm gauge just went to 0 and didne move at all so when i finally made it to neighbor hood my CEL (Check engine light) came on and my car started to spudder like it had no gas. even though i just filled her up... then as soon as i got in parkin spot it died... and i popped the hood it smells like somethin was burnin cant really describe the smell...

but yeah sorry for all that to read but thats the full story lol some one PLZ help me.... i think it might b altenator isnt good any more even though i just tested it (unhooked batt) but maybe it was just enough to keep car running and was going bad...

sounds like an alternator for sure, but I have no idea what your "burning" smell would have been

most auto part stores due testing for free so when you take it off (before you go buy a new one) have them test it for you first.

Running a bad battery for a while can put so much of a load on the alternator that it will go out too, kindov common, the alt. is internally regulated so id have them test it at an auto parts store, most can even do it in the car.

Didn't know a bad battery could put strain on a alternator. Good info. Definitally gonna get mine checked out at autozone or pepboys when i purchase a valve cover gasket w/grommets & NGK spark plug wires.

Had this trouble before. bad battery, then bad alt

careful, a bad alt wil hurt the battery

VICOUS CIRCLE lol

The burning smell could verywell be something internal of the alt getting way too damn hot, or something as simple as some roaddebri getting in there, like a piece of paper or garbage.

Your rpm ****ing up, that is a sign of a ground being damaged. It could be a bad alt that had something melt inside, throwing voltage to a ground.

I would try to get it started with a freshly charged battery, and get it to autozone or some other partsstore ASAP

FYI, the car should drive okay for 5-10 minutes without the alternator hooked up
