First off, I wasn't 100% sure where to put this thread. Figured there would be a lot of people in here trying many different combos of parts so maybe someone would have run across a similar problem.
OK, so my issue is that my engine is now making a whistling noise. I haven't been able to narrow it down 100% as to when exactly it happens, but it's not constant. It seems to occur at different engine speeds, different throttle positions, and possibly different loads on the engine. Since it's whistling it seems logical it has something to do with intake air movement.
It seems to have started when I replaced my p72 throttle body with an S2000 piece (due to some sticky throttle issues). I also installed a P2R thermal TB gasket (for it's re-usability, not any performance gain). I doubt it's relevant, but I also had to stretch the hell out of my intake to throttle body coupler to get it onto the new larger TB. It seems logical that the TB or gasket are at fault, but now I'm not sure what to think or do.
I'm wondering if anyone has come across something similar. Maybe they know it to be a gasket problem or a TB problem? I'd prefer to keep both of the new parts, but the whistle is REALLY annoying. Any suggestions or past experiences welcomed...
And for reference:
- rebuilt b17a w/ 11:1 CR
- itr intake cam
- itr intake manifold w/ Hondata thermal gasket
- s2000 throttle body w/ P2R thermal gasket
- akimoto 3" sri w/ blox velocity stack + filter

That's good it means ur intake setup is flowing very crisp at like 10-15% throttle my engine does it all the time. But it's nothing to be freaked out about b/c nothing is wrong.
It's kinda like the sound itb's make also meaning that u should have very good throttle response.

Well, I don't necessarily think there's a problem, unless there's a gasket leak (which others have suggested). My main concern is the noise, I hate it. It doesn't seem to me that the whistle is a sign of something good (or bad for that matter), moreso that it's just a characteristic - one that I would like to get rid of.
My 96 accord makes all the noise in the world... bushings and squeaks like a MF ... other then replace them i turn my music up louder.
I know none of these posts actually help you.. personally I like the sound of performance!
Same reason why my hatch I built with an h22 has no radio in it...I just play the music in my head :O

It seems like the velocity of the air is creating turbulence over the throttle plate as it flows over its edge. My car does it, there is nothing to worry about.
yea my gsr did it loud as hell when i put my skunk 68mm tbody on it .. i think i remeber reading its from the air flowing over smooth surface to a ruff surface or something like that causing the whistel as your tbody gets a littel dirty on the inside the sound will go away

i would start by having someone sit in the car and slowly raise the rpms until you can hear the whistle once you have it whistling spray some water from a spray bottle around the intake to t/b coupler. it should drop the rpms if there is a leak just like any other vacuum leak right? if the rpms don't drop then everyone else's theories are most likely correct.

In case I didn't make it clear. I'm not worried about it being a performance issue or a problem. Simply something I don't want to hear. It's a track car, I don't have a stereo, but I have to drive it to the track, and occasionally around town. I feel that there's got to be a remedy to this, no one else I know has this whistle. It's NOT just something that happens when you build a car, it's not something I have to deal with because it's a non-stock engine.
yeah, this was also an idea of mine.
It's not dangerous, a little bit of water won't hurt anything, you need to fill the cylinder (more than the combustion chamber volume) in order to get hydro lock. And even then, if you sprayed water on your connections/gaskets... to check for a leak and there was a small leak the amount of liquid introduced into the engine would be completely negligible, probably nothing more than a humid day.
