Default Crankshaft bolt

What in the name of sanity did the boffins at Honda expect to achieve by locking the crankshaft bolt at such an ungodly torque ? I have thus far; snapped a 9"x 1/2" Snap on extension bar, cracked two impact sockets and broken a chain strap laterally whilst trying to remove this MOF ffs !! I have never in all my years wrenching seen such a stubborn friggen bolt!! A 3/4" impact @ 150 lbs and 30cfm and the bugger doesn't budge ? C'mon now, I have to buy into the "scaffolding pole technique ? What were you thinking Honda, the fuc*er was going to self destruct unless it was welded to the crank ? 6 ' breaker bars ffs ?
Insanity imo and now I have to enter the "special world of Honda tools ? FU, It would be easier to set light to the fu*er and buy a Toyota !!!
Would heating up the bolt to liquify the thread lock help BTW ?
Rant over.

Chris.

dude chill the F out, i got a 3/4'' impact driver made by milwaulke and it usually does the job, you can heat it up with a torch around the shoulder of the bolt but be quick with it and be ready to cool the pulley down with some water as soon as it bolt breaks free. if you heat it for to long you will melt the timing belt and/or cover. i know the can be a bitch but Honda isnt the only one with this style of crank pulley and bolt.

I took the bolt out tonight and I was having the same problem. I broke an extension and was not getting anywhere. This is what worked for me, i used a ton of pb blaster on the bolt, wrapped the pulley with a chain wrench and with an old tbelt to protect it and i added a thick piece of metal tubing over the end of the wrench so it would catch on the lower control arm. I then hooked up my socket and extensions and used a jack to support the end of the extensions so they wouldnt flex, it took a ton of force but it eventually gave way, keep trying and it will budge, good luck

its pretty easy to break.....on a lift. you use the crank pulley holder tool with a GOOD breaker bar with a pipe on it.

Make sure you glue it back in when you re-assemble, Honda engines go the wrong way, thats why.

Well I bit the bullet and coughed up for the special tool. $60 is a lot of cash for a tool I might never use again. When the thing finally let go it sounded like a pistol shot !!
Thanks all for your suggestions.

Chris.

Now you can rent it to your friends for $5 each time to make your money back, or even 10 or better yet 20.
