Blinking CEL = severe random misfires = check plugs, wires, cap, and rotor

Also check whether the 7.5A hood Back Up fuse is blown.

Visual inspection of a fuse can be unreliable. Use a multimeter or test light to test the installed fuse as described at the Test Fuses link in my signature.

I was reading that "test fuse" link right after I checked, I just hope I have a test light or 12v bulb around now

After the CEL blinks, does it then stay on steady or turn off? Are you trying to pull the codes by jumping the service connector or using a scan tool?

It will turn off after a series of 5ish blinks. I used a friends scan tool and no codes threw. Which I thought was weird cause when I searched all with similar problem said it was a misfire/damage to cat

If you turn the key to ON(II), does the CEL turn on and then off after 2 seconds? If so, unplug the IACV connector and then start the engine. Does the CEL remain on steady? If so, turn the engine off and then pull the code with the scan tool. Do you retrieve a code? What code?

I had that problem in my em1. Had a short in the plug wires. It only blinked under load. Replaced them and no problems.

Checked the plugs/wires going to get them replaced. The cap looked ok the bottom to contacts had a little carbon so will replace that as-well. Going to get a test light to check 7.5 fuse

Valve guide? piston rings? Valve gasket? I want to fix the problem instead of throwing these new plugs wires on and still risk having a misfire ANY input suggestions would be extremely helpful

OMFG I am having the same problem with my EM1. Before it used to just happen at random with the blinking CEL the quick fix for me was that I was using the wrong wires. I changed them with my old NGK wires and it went away. The other day I was on the freeway going about 80mph and at a steady 4k rpm and boom CEL flashed and then came on again. The problem could be a sensor in the distributor, or something in the engine: rings, valves, etc. I would recommend trying the easier cheaper stuff before ripping into the block. So far I have done New spark plugs, went back to old wires (will buy new ones pay day) New rotor and distributor cap. The next thing I would suggest is borrow a working dizzy off of a friend and then also have your timing adjusted. Those are my next steps. Let us know if you find anything else. And Good Luck

Well so far today I replaced diz cap, rotor, ngk plugs wires, valve cover gasket and spark plug gasket. Waiting for sealant to cure before I take it for a test drive. If this doesnt solve my problem compression test is my next step then valves and valve seals
