d15/16
d15 is a shorter stroke, one oiling port on the crank, smaller rod/crank journals, different pistons... yes you can put the z6 head on the d15 block, although you might need an adjustable cam gear to adjust for the shorter block height... that's what i've read from searching. i just went with a d16 and everything bolted right up when i did my swap.
i had a feeling that just goin with a d16 would be simpler but i wasnt sure just figured that i would see what everyone thought. i that it may have just been a few extra ports to the head and the adjustable cam gear. seems a diff motor would be simpler. any other thoughts?
Doing the D16Z6 head swap onto my D15B7 Block right now. I bought a full gasket set for the Z6 head and it pretty much just bolts right up. If you use the Z6 IM all components will just plug right in. I'm using a Y8 IM so I had to swap all the components from my stock IM to this one. I also purchased a P28 ecu, some 18 AWG wiring and Z6 timing belt and a Skunk2 adj cam gear. I have not put the head on yet but will be this week. Beleive me it's easier than swaping the whole engine. But will cost you roughly the same. You will get similar horsepower with higher compression...
that seems to be the better option to do i dont have that place to do an engine swap now. so no machine work or nothings just some stock and after market parts basically. let me know how long it took you and how simple it turned out to be
It's not quite that easy. Just saying. -Later, BR

actually it is easy i did a z6 head on a d15bs block took me a coule of hours i used d15 stock intake mani cuz all the sensors worked and also dnt remember which timing belt i used i think it was the d16 one cuz the head sat a lil higher but other than that i had no issues..till that same night i didnt notice one of my water hoses had a small hole in it and i basically screwed up everything and the next day just did a full z6 swap....
Need new head bolts, headgasket, check the block and head for flatness, valve adjustment, remove oil jet in block, bolt head on, tighten to spec, new timing belt, set timing, install intake with new gasket, run 3 wires for VTEC and new ECU (P28) or chip your PO6. See what I mean? -Later, BR
Check the FAQ section on the top of the forum they have what you want to do covered there, I will also be doin one soon getting a free d15b from a friends car supposedly it has a cracked head but I haven't looked yet might be completely fudged inthat case I'll just pull out an build what I already have
google search "mini-me swap", you'll find tons of info.
i would have to discourage the use of the y5 head because it is it vtec-e unlike the d16z6 or d16y8 head that are normal vtec heads. basically, the y5 is not what you want if you intend on getting any kind of power increase. this will help explain the difference.
