Hey guys!

A friend of mine has a 2000 Civic that was having some problems (surging idle and bad charging system)and after having the alternator and battery tested (both were bad) they left it for dead and it sat for about 3 months.

Today I replaced the alternator and battery along with the plugs and air filter. The car was very hard to start but after cranking and pumping the gas for a bit it roared to life. After it warmed up for a bit the idle began to surge just like it had before the charging system was replaced (They thought the alternator would fix it). I did some searches and found that the actual problem was caused by the IACV and after disconnecting the electrical connector it ran fine (temporary fix until I can clean it).

The problem I am facing now is the car is very hard to get moving (it takes a lot of gas to stop it from stalling in first gear and reverse) but once you get the car moving it feels like something breaks free and the car feels fine and drives fine.

While replacing the alternator I noticed that the bottom of the transmission (manual) was wet with fluid.

I was wondering if a leak or something could have caused the transmission fluid to be low and that is causing my issue with first and reverse?

The rest of the drivetrain seems to be fine as the car rolls freely and only struggles when you start to drive in first and reverse.
