CIVIC 2001 gauge problems. Odometer 888888 needles just died
Hi,
I have a CIVIC EX 2001 and I have some problems with the gauges and display.
The odometer randomly shows trip AB888888 and the needles sometimes just die meaning just mark 0. Something that I noticed is that the battery light in dash blinks but only when I put the ignition and the display shows the 8888888. When It works fine, the battery light works fine.
It seems to be a grounding issue but I already checked almost all the wiring.
Every other light in the dash like the brake light, the CEL, the highbeam etc work fine.
Sometimes without any particular reason everything works fine.
I have read a lot about the same issue but could not find an answer.
Do you have an Idea of what could be the cause of that issue?

I am also having the exact issue. When starting the car morning first time, the odometer shows 88888888 and TRIP AB. After warming the car a bit, it shows the correct reading, the RPM also and gas meter also starts working then.
I have checked with dealer, he is clueless. If anyone has a solution, please pass...

If you have a cluster made by Visteon Corporation, replace cluster with a known proper functioning one. There was an extreme amount of problems/failures with these clusters, compared to the ones manufactured by Nippon Seiki. There is no mention of where the above posters are from, or body style models. So just take out the cluster and see which vendor sticker is on it.
