what motor oil do u recommend
synthetic oil is great, i run it in every car i have and will own, but if it really has high mileage (170k+) and has been using conventional oil since day 1, now wouldnt be the best time to switch to synthetic oil, unless you also have the money to spend replacing gaskets and seals.
I've been running Castrol GTX in all of my cars for years with no problems. Civic's currently got about 80K on the swap with no issues, and the old engine is up to 200K in another car with no issues.
I ran synthetic on my swap for awhile, but I switched back when I found out that it uses about 1QT/3K miles, and I got tired of buying extra quarts of synthetic. I was doing 6K oil changes on the synthetic, because there's no reason to change synthetic at 3K on a daily driver.
Not major usage, but enough that I gradually add about a quart over the course of 3K miles... I think it burns a bit in VTEC. So, I switched back to GTX and 3K oil changes. I've had the valve cover off a few times, and it's still clean as a whistle on conventional. Still uses a bit, but I don't notice any difference in performance or engine wear.
I'm biased against Pennzoil, but not for any real reason. I've just heard other people say it's crap, and I've never heard anything bad about Castrol.

From what I've heard conventional Castrol oil is fine for our cars, even boosted ones. Pretty much all conventional oil is the same including the autoparts/walmart brands. With that being said, I personally wouldn't use a super cheap brand of oil, but any 5w-30/10w-30 major brand will be just fine.

conventional... brand doesn't matter much. use the appropriate weight (which should be 5W30 for all D-series..)
what's more important than what oil you use, esp. in a "high mileage" daily driver is how well you keep up with changing it and fixing leaks.

Hi, I am from Costa Rica
Please, do not used Oil for High Milage engines or Bardal Stop Smoking or similar, it is S!!!!!!##### Ask your mechanic, because you may cloged the Vtec valve or oil passage to the Vtec valve.. I strong recommend the Havoline 20w50 convensional oil from Texaco if your engine is consuming some oil, a little smoke. I your engine is using a lot of oil, well you need to re-ring your engine.
If your engine is not burning oil try any 10W30 syntetic oil for up to 1.7 whp increase if you have colds winters. If you live south like Miami, Houston, Arizona, etc try the 30 syntetic oil ( not multigrade oil) like Redline Oil.
Expect oil consumption , even in a new engine if you drive hard. In terms of oil consumption 100% castrol synt and Mobile 1 are the worst ( but very good oils ). Try to ask for reference about oil consumption for other syntetics brands, AND people BE HONEST!
By the way, I am into Amateur car racing here in Costa Rica with my Honda EX Coupe ( D16Z6 ). For very very cold winters like Alaska you may need a 5W30, 0W30 or a 0W20 oil.

I would use whatever 5W-30 is on sale. I got some "Q horsepower" synthetic by quaker state this time because it was $0.01 more per quart than whatever name brand conventional was on special. It didn't change a damn thing on my D. I'll probably use it again though if it's so cheap, why not? But it really doesn't matter much.I would not use royal purple or Honda, too much cash...
meh it's a single these things are damn near built proof. Run any 5-30 in it. your wasting your money if your useing mobil 1 or anything such as that. Unless you have a built or something motor that gets beat to hell.
I wouldnt run synthetic though, if you do keep a very close eye on it. If it starts to burn or leak go back to regular, i run castrol synthetic blend in mine. 210k and still runing great.

Good info
dont go to wallmart the oil just sits on the shelf sometimes for years.... go to a parts store people by oil there more than wallmart ...conventional oil is fine just change it every 3000 go with what the oil cap says... doesnt mater what brand... oil is oil ...it doesnt matter what the bottle says its most likely coming from the same oil refinery
Conventional: Valvoline or Castrol
Syn Blend: Valvoline or Castrol
Full Synthetic: Valvoline, Castrol, or Mobil 1
depending on mileage, driving conditions, and leaks, weight is different. i use 5w30 Castrol GTX year-round with no probs.
