Default What does this thing on the fuel tank do

the car i bought came with a fuel cell, and i'm changing it back to a stock tank and i was looking to figure out what the 3rd hose going into the tank does. i know the two on the top are fuel and fuel return, but what is the one down in the corner do? i guess i know it goes to the evap unit, but could i just cap it off and not have an evap unit? what actually happens at that entry point and whats that little valve looking thingy plugged into it

forgive my ignorance, but i'm just getting into working on hondas and have never done a fuel tank before.

well, and like i said, please forgive me but the only setup i've known so far is my fuel cell setup, which is only good for drag race, and is why i'm changing it....

but if that's the vent couldn't i just run a line up to a high place and loop it and vent it outside the car. do i have to put the evap unit on the other end of the line, or can i treat that just like the vent on my fuel cell and just run a vent to anywhere outside the car.....

i'm in rural washington so passing emmisions isn't an issue

my mechanic has got me all freaked out and is insisting that if i don't run the evap unit my car will explode. is he confused? it'll vent just fine without the unit, right?

As long as your car is obd2 u don't need the canister in your bay, which I'm guessing you don't have. And for the vent on the tank just run a small hose towards the rear.

i like what i'm hearing about the simple hose towards the rear....it seems just like the fuel cell and thats what makes sense to me and thats what i was hoping for, but like i said, my mechanic has got me all freaked out about it......so why does one need the canister in OBD1, but not OBD2 and would that apply to me?

extra information: it's a B20 swap into an EG civic that's been "downgraded" to OBD1. the previous owner put a fuel cell and a cage in it....i bought it for road race but i didn't know enough to know that it's a strictly show setup....thats why i'm reversing some things
