Icon6 SPeed sensor issue

car in question: 1997 Accord Wagon EX, F22B1

Engine light came on and reads that the speed sensor is throwing a code. I changed out the speed sensor with a brand new one. worked fine for a bit then the check engine light came back on. had my buddy who is a mechanic check it out and found a wire that was rubbing on the passenger side axle. we took the wire with the sensor that it is connected to out, spliced the wires and put it back in the car. worked for for a bit, then check engine light came back on and the speedometer is not working properly. sometimes the speedo doesnt show what speed im going, and sometimes it goes up and down. so i am stumped. anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to what is wrong? i did reset the ECU after putting the car back together. is there something i am not looking at? something i missed?
