Type R EJ shuttering?
Ok so I installed my B18c (Type R) into my EJ about 2 months ago and it has been running fine up until now. The problem Iam having is once I take off my rpm guage starts to jump around and I get a shutter through all of my gears. When I smash the gas pedal to the floor it bogs down and I have no acceleration. But then there are other times when my car will run perfect I dont get it at all. Does anyone have a clue as to what this could be Iam at a loss and dont know what else to do?
Thanks in advance!

ok so I went to test the ICM+coil and found out that the coil is good but Iam unsure about my ICM. It has voltage running to it but when I tested it with a test light it did not light up. You do this by hooking the alligator clamp up to the (+) terminal of the battery while hooking the probe up to the (-) terminal of the distributor and to crank the car and wait for a flash of light correct?

ok thanks alot I was just making sure it was the ICM. Another question is I can only find the ICM for $150 (type R) and $50 (GSR) at Autozone and $180(type R) from the dealership. Is there a difference in the two?
Eek, looks like you're OBD2. If Autozone doesn't list the same part number for the OBD1 and OBD2 distributors, then they are definitely different.
You might be better off picking up a whole new complete unit off of Ebay. If you're on a time crunch, just pick up the one from Autozone. A bad ICM or coil can leave you stranded in a heartbeat.

Alright my EJ is still not starting even after replacing the ICM. Does anyone have any suggestions on what it could be? I need my car back its my DD.
Did the new ICM look like the old one? Put the old one back in just to get the car running.
What year is the swap? There is a difference between OBD2a (96-97) and OBD2b (98-00).
I checked the part numbers for the ICM's and they are different. Make sure you get the right one according to your swap.
They are $152 at Autozone. At that price I would look for a new distributor, but I understand it's your daily so you might want to just get it back up and running. It is a special order part, but shouldn't take them more than a day or so to get.
If you put the old ICM back in and it still doesn't start, something else must be wrong.

As long as its the same OBD from the same series of motors it should work fine. Infact I was running my car w/ its frankenstein dizzy on my friends ICM for a couple weeks after mine blew out. You should check ebay for one though.
Although your problem isnt necessarily ICM related. You should try to borrow a ICM from someone and test it out. Because I had a studdering for about 1 day before mine blew out, but it was a clear missfire and the car stalled alot. It could also be your terminals to the ICM. After I replaced mine I had the same issue that you are having now with lack of acceleration (and I'm Boosted so I was blowing flames out from missfire), it would sound like its going to explode when i punched it. And it turned out to be loose connections between the small terminal clamps that go on the ICM and the wires themselves (they were old and wasted). So I had to make new ones and since then its been good.

I bought the GSR ICM and installed it but it wouldnt start then I realized I over looked a fuse. Haha!! It runs fine now but Iam worried about it being the wrong ICM what is the difference between the GSR and Type R? The one I bought looks exactly the same down to the tan color. O and it is the OBD2a.
