Default 1993 civic si hatch, Severe electrical issue

I have a 93 civic hatch, bought the car as a shell. just recently put my swap in and turbo kit, when to start. it would start and run for a while. here comes the issue. All of a sudden, i loose all power throughout the whole car, no lights, beeps, buzzers, etc. The under hood fuse box seems to getting power from battery, but nothing inside the car, anyone have any ideas? let me kno 540-241-2036 mike

Try cleaning and tightening the battery ground wire attached to the frame.

Any hood fuse blown?

Do the headlights work when the problem happens? If so, check the ignition switch.

Oh boy, this is going to be fun. Intermittent total electrical collapse. Probably best it's a total fail. Should be easier to isolate - not that it's going to be easy.

I don't know man. I assume you have schematics for the thing? Sounds like a connection, solder joint, corrosion, rust, what have you.

About all you can do is start at the battery and work through the systen wire by wire, joint by joint.

Alternator is working ok? Voltage is good? If it's good, and it's going dead while in the run mode, then the issue is after the alternator/battery circuit.

sound like the power to the fusebox is bad. run a hot wire to it see what happens.

Also could be a bad hood fuse box.

Why a whole harness? Did it smoke some insulation? Burn wires? If it's just one bad wire simply piggy back one along with it.

If it's burnt, melted then yes change the whole thing out.

Glad you found it hoss - I figured you would soon. It was a good thing is just dumped and went totally dead - easier to figure out.

Go to the WTB or classified forum and post what you need. Someone will probably have it.

Good talking to you again - as the conversation progressed you unwound a bit. It served as moral support as much as technical. Been there done that.

Cheers to ya!

well it appears that it is only 1 wire, and i thought about cutting it out and trying to replace it, but it was alot of work just to get to where i could see it, lol. had to take the blower assembly, heater core, etc out. has really been a pain in my @$$.

Did it burn insulation? If it heated from a short and smoked the insulation, it may have melted adjacent wires. If it's all inside the bundle, then you probably should replace the harness just to be sure.

That's a judgemet call and maybe a mirror inspection will help. I would just piggy back one outside the bundle if doesn't look too bad. But, if it's hosed up then replace the whole bundle.

You could put a jumper in temporarily and get the car going while you search for a replacement.

Again, it's a judgement call.

In the long run, it's probably not worth trying to repair. I'd not be too worried about a jumper though, for temporary testing - just cut the other wire out of the circuit at each end and cap them good.

I'm glad you found it hoss!
