Accord Type-r engine question
I do know it is the same as a H22a. A couple weeks ago someone posted a link of an online store that sells it here in the US. Anybody remembers/knows which one?
I remember the swap going for $5400..... but I can't recall where?????
Thanks,
Nikos

Thanks guys. Inline for has it for $6000. I have heard that they do price them high....
I have read about the motor and it looks to me like the only major difference is the red cover on the H22 and the special transmission... What is the tranmission's name?

the internals of the engine are different too. slightly more wild grind on the cams, higher compression (11:1 compared to the h22a 10.6:1) and exhaust/intake runners are ported for better flow. all this combines to give the motor the etra 20+/- hp over the standard h22a
i think the ATR tranny has shorter gears with a 4.8 fd.
Thats what Steve from HMO told me anyway.

see steve is a crazy guy, cus when i picked up my engine, he told me it was a type R tranny w/ 4.80 FD. its a SIR-t tranny tho, and has the 4.266, im not sure if steve even really knows.
i know for a fact, that the Type-R tranny's gears are 10-17% shorter than the normal h22a according to SCC.

I'm not sure if the cams are the same... but the ATR has the same rated HP/torque as a Type-S Prelude.. I assume the cams must be the same.
Seems like a waste of money to me.

Just got of the phone with Steve from http://www.hondamotorsonline.com . He said that for $4000, you can pick between the prelude type-s and the accord type-r motor. Only difference is the diiferent TB they have.
I asked him if he thinks it is worth it compared to the H22A he sells for $2400. He said NO which I think shows that he is a good guy.
Anyway, keep on dreaming!!!!

http://www.jdmhondaparts.com also has the TYPE-R motor for like 4,000 or 4,500.
the accord TYPE R is only rated at 210 hp. the EURO R is the one with 220 hp like the type s prelude motor. the euro r is basically the same setup as the type s but has a different intake manifold without secondaries so they the powerband is distributed a little different among the two engines. the guy that sold me my jdm h22, glen from ep racing, 919-759-0210 gets a lot of euro r motors. if i can remember correctly they go for about 4000-4500 somewhere between there. also the euro r tranny has shorter gears than the regular jdm h22 and comes with lsd..the type s motor comes with atts so the euro r is a better buy if you are going to take that route. i agree that the euro r or the type s is not worth it if you are planning on building the motor, i would recommend to just get a jdm h22 and go from there. but if you just want a motor to drop in a go then i think its better to buy the euro r since it has more power.
Thanks guys.
Time for the stupid question:
Can I use my current F23A1 tranny with a H22A motor? I do know that the H22A tranny is better but just wondering......

it will bolt up, but yo dont want to do that, the gearing is far too long and you will loose mucho power. just go with the h, if nonething else just get one from a h23
