Air Conditioning (94 LX)
The AC in my 94 lx has been acting up lately. If the temperature is hot, like above 90ºf out the clutch will engage and disengage after a few seconds and repeat. This does not occur when it is colder, the clutch engages and stays engaged and cold air comes from the vents. I checked my low side refrigerant pressure with a gauge and it was at 35 psi so I do not believe it is a pressure issue. I believe this could be a faulty relay but am unsure as to where the relay is at or how to test it. Am I on the right track with the relay and where is it located? or could it be something else?
I doubt it is a blown fuse because it will work perfectly at times and at others be cycling. The refrigerant does not leak out, It has always kept charge and the compressor is not seized. I just drove home with cold air but at times especially on the hottest of days the clutch will just kick in for a second and then go right back out repeatedly.
make sure your cooling fans are working properly, and it's possible that your compressor clutch coil is overheating and keeping the clutch from engaging. I saw this on a Dodge van that I fixed the other day. clutch would disengage when stopped in traffic. coil was acting up.
