Tips and/or tricks to set timing???
I just replaced the timing belt on my D16y7 and I cant seem to get the timing right. I lined everything up according to the helms manual that I have but I seem to be off by a tooth or two. Anyone have any advice or trick they've learned. Ive tried several times to get it right and its starting to irritate me. TIA
get the camshaft at TDC(up mark up, and horizontal lines on pulley lined up with plane of head)
loosen tensioner bolt, then push down on firewall side of timing belt, and hold down while tightening up tensioner bolt; this will create slack on belt allowing you to pull off the belt.
rotate crank pulley counterclockwise. there should be marks on the pulley: ||| |
line up the line that is all by itself on the notch the lower timing belt cover.
make sure the cam pulley is still at TDC, put belt back on, and go through the tightening process.
once tightened, you should be all good!

Got a similar question here. Its for my dads camry but I figure the concepts are the same. I am trying to get the car in TDC, however, the timing belt is slipping when I rotate the crank. Should I try to remove the slack then set TDC or can I take off the timing belt and set the crank and cam separately from their timing marks?
