Does GSR main caps and GSR crank go with ITR block???
im buying a itr block but it doesnt have the #2 and #5 main caps. i do have the gsr main caps and gsr crank that i was going to use. i was wondering if this is a good idea or not? my buddy say only to use the original main caps because its specs are made for the original block only and every block is different. Let me know your expertise! any help would be appreciate. thanks
I am pretty sure they are the same. Most of the magic for the B18C5 is in the head and I believe the blocks are the same.
U cannot mis-match main caps. they are made for that block and each block is different. The caps and bearing housing on the block is machined to a specific diameter, if u use a different cap from a different block, the diameter wont match the block anymore. this also goes for the head, u have to use the original caps that holds the cams. For the crank, u can use the ITR for the GSR block, but it will be a bitch matching up the rod bearing size because the letter on the crank starts out at the end of the alphabet, and the GSR crank starts out in the beginning. But if u're using aftermarket rods, then just go with the standard bearing size and it should work fine. I am using a Type R crank in my gsr block and no problems yet with standard size bearings. Ofcourse u can always use plastigage to find bearings sizes, but the stupid dealership doesnt know anything about sizes and only in colors. STUPID DEALERSHIPS! hope this helps you.
It's not so much that the diameter won't match b/c you can resolve that with plastigaging or mic'ing and using different bearing sizes. It's more of the concentricity (or rather ovalicity?...is that even a word?) of the main cap bores that matters. Line boring is needed to make the shape of the bore true again.
Have you seen the block? Why are the caps missing? Spun a main bearing? Be careful buying "sight unseen blocks"
thanks guys for your quick responses. thats what i had in mind too. i knew that every block's spec is different, however the guy selling me the block says it was fine...i didnt ask why the main caps are missing but he said that its even better to have the gsr crank micropolish along with the main bearings polished...but anywho, he's selling for 300 shipped so..i might think thats why he was selling it... i do recall Eric Aguilar saying that all main caps are different as well as the cam caps on th head. i guess i wont be buying the block then...piece
