To shave or not to shave that is the question?
ok so i got a question for everyone im not sure what i want to do so im asking you for your opinions
keep the oem side molding go with the this side moldings or shave em off or plug the holes and keep the lowered section there (not worried about paint ) whole car needs to go to paint anyways done lots of body work in the last few months (dents, dings, replaced fenders)

This is true shave the door handles at most and keep the body lines in tact, I shaved my EG and it looks good but without the moldings and area for the moldings it looses something.
2 cents.

I think you have to either shave it completely, and make it all flush, or don't touch it at all. The shaved with lowered area looks half assed.
id say if you want to shave it shave it like the honda partner where the line is still there but the Holes for the trim arent there

i HATE shaving it completetly it looks very ricer . A kid had a CTR replica and every thign was amazing on that car but he had the Trim shaved to where it was flush an it looked very stupid there is a reason honda designed it to be there.
any other type of shaving kills the resale on the car

^I think I will disagree with you. I feel more inclinded to believe that honda put it there to prevent people from slamming their doors into yours. I have a hard time imagining a bunch of aerodynamic engineers sitting around saying "Know what would really set the styling off on this civic... a giant rubber strip going down the side."
For the OP, Here's one thing that I can guarantee you will have to do regardless of what you decide....you must take that strip off to paint the car. Don't just paint around it...you'll hate yourself afterwards.

well its off right now and there is gaffers tape over the holes inside the door and the back part. Ive been striping some of the parts off to make it easy when i go to paint the car. Im having a friend in my collision repair class paint it in his paint class he was in the top of his class and its his 3rd semister in the fall. the instructor encourages students to bring in vehicles to paint so that they have different vehicles to paint instead of just the paint sleds.

if i decide to keep the oem or go with the thin side moldings do you guys think i should match them to the cars color or just have them be black or not paint them at all and leave them just the abs plastic black

Here is an older photo from my hatch, it's different now and that was right after paint and no cut and buff, the door bottom is off a bit too in that photo.

Keep the trim it's a pain in the *** to fill it in, believe me i've done it I've even filled in all body seams on a 93 civic coupe ex. Like one of the previous people said, don't be a ricer. "Ricers are like tampons, every ***** has one."
im not worried about it being a pain in the a$$ im in a collision repair class half my week and i have 1 day of lab where i get to do what i want as long as its automotive related and it will give me something to do

If you have money you just want to throw away and are bored with your car, I guess you should go ahead and do it.
If you can't figure out anything better to do with your money then go ahead and do it.
