as the title says my 2000 si is idleing at almost 3000 rmp. and doing it consistantly. i just did some major engine work (putting in a new block)
and had some trouble getting it running right (turned out to be my map and tps were switched) but now im idleing super high. the car runs pretty solid except idleing. it doesnt seem to be jumpy or stumbling.

ive been reading idle problems all night but i cant find any that have had it idle this high. so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

 

Disconnected vacuum hose? Throttle body or intake manifold gasket leak? CEL codes?

 

Try cleaning your IACV. Look for vacuum leaks. Make sure your TPS is plugged in. tell us about any CELs you might have.

 

Fitv. Fast Idle Thermo Valve. When your car is running.Lookin into your throttle body theres a little hole on the side of it.Before your throttle plate put your finger over the hole.She should pur like a kitten.Is the idle erratic.Maybe it isnt the trouble

 

The stock 00 Si engine does not have an FITV.

oh also about the CEL's... my ecu was chipped and for some reason doesnt throw CELs
ive got a stock ecu comming in tho so that might help

 

so you have a obdII to obdI wiring harness? Did you just put this in after the work was completed? So with the new block its never idled right?

 

i have an obd1 ecu. the engine and wire harness are obd2. it was the same computer from before. but it wont idle right. it idled right previously though. i really think its a vaccum leak. i took it in to a mechanic that i know pretty well and hes gonna check it out for free. because im really busy with school right now.

 

so? what was the problem. because im having same issues.

 

Check your pedal. Sometimes mine idles high 2500-3000 rpm. If it's idling at 3k, put your foot behind the pedal and pull it back. If your idle goes down to the norm, it's an issue in the pedal/cable assembly somewhere.
