Default Aftermarket Head Unit in an '86 Civic DX, it's too warm!

The head unit, on hot days (I'm in southern IN), loves to stop outputting audio for a variable amount of time, until it cools down. The wiring is a bit messy, but the head unit is nonetheless in a large, mostly enclosed, plastic box.

I was thinking dremel and an 80mm 12V AC fan. Suggestions? Perhaps the ground wire isn't adequate?

Note, car obviously doesn't have air cond. :)
