My car´s a '92 Accord EX with F22A6 engine and auto trans.

Though I live in Europe, mine´s a US model ( non-export ).

Sometime ago I had the throttle position sensor replaced for a new one after the ECU reported error code 7 wich refers to it.

I recently heard that it should have never been done because the TPS sensor is supposed to be calibrated with precision equipment and now it´s been pulled out of its original position I need to get another throttle body and have the whole thing replaced.

Is this seconded or is it a bit of an extreme opinion ?

my 93 accord has been having start problems. ive checked all and ran a code it was 7 which is tps. but i unplugged the tps and the car starts anyway but then dont start after sets all night. so if the tps was causing it not to start then why would it start one day with it unplugged. it wouldnt so im thinking the tps is not my problem it is just making the check engine light stay on.

 

This TPS code 7 doesn´t quite seem to be very accurate.

Sometimes I get te feeling that it´s not reporting anything wrong with the tps at all.

Check your coolant level, I´m suspecting my car´s leaking coolant and it idles roughly because one of the valves works with coolant and air ... it still reads code 7 regardless of where the TPS is placed, so ...

What it does is to speed up or delay the engine, almost like an idle **** but not quite.
I´ve been explained that the TPS sends information to both ECU and transmission ECU so it mustn´t be touched for that reason, it takes special precision equipment to calibrate it in the correct position and it´s locked in for that precise reason.

 

all it takes is a voltmeter set on DC and a screw driver (provided you've taken off the factory rivet screws and replaced them), loosen screws, turn TPS until it reaches these values: .5V closed throttle, 4.5V wide open, tighten screws, done

 

Key thing with a code 7 is that it is not always a problem with the TPS itself, but the circuit that it is part of. The error code states that there is "a problem in the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor circuit." Not just the sensor. That is why there are trouble shooting procedures for code 7. They test the sensor (potentiometer) and it's 3 wire circuit, including the circuits on-board the ECU / TCU.

Your code 7 could be a corroded connection, a loose wire, a grounded/shorted/bare wire, or a problem with the ECU and/or TCU circuit.

Back probe your TPS and check for .5v closed throttle and 4.5v wide open throttle. Also as the throttle is opened you should see the voltage climb smoothly with the opening throttle. If your TPS functions within these parameters, there is something else wrong in the circuit.

Since the plug is a 3-pin, which of them does one measure DC voltage to set it ?

 

The center pin is the signal.

You are absolutely correct. I back probe the wires (stick the multimeter probes in the back side of the connector) with the connector still connected.

 

if it was on the car and you had a scanner just look at the data stream and adjust it that way.

My car´s nearly clear out of the body shop ( got a new full coat of metallic black ).
It´s now going to the mechanics to get a full new gasket kit and I need to get this TPS matter solved at once. How can he tune it properly with the TPS readings are all wrong ?
