i just threw a gsr in my hatch and it smokes only under load. i did a compression test on a cold motor and the numbers where 175 across the board. i added a cap full of oil in each cylinder and if it changed it was not more than 5psi. this only tells me that my compression rings are good, right?
on start up and normal driving it does not smoke but in vtec it smokes a cloud.

i dont know what i can do to pin point the exact problem....

i had the same thing with my 96 Gsr... only at high rpm it would smoke... i changed my rings.. valve seals and a whole new gasket kit and now its finee. just did it in february. What color is ur smoke?

 

if your rings are good, it's most likely your valve seals.

 

valve seals/guids if those check out to be good. How did the cylinder walls look? what type of finish do they have?

its blue smoke....im not too sure how the walls look....last time i even got to take a look at them was when i did the oil pan gasket a few weeks ago and i didnt see anything out of the ordinary but i didnt really take a close look.

the motor makes power, it just smokes in vtec. i got to dyno it and it made 156whp(gsr with bolt ons).

 

Is there an odor to the smoke?

 

well when i drive it hard i can smell burning oil sometimes. when it was on the dyno i didnt really notice a smell but i never really paid too much attention to the smell to be honest. i just hope its not the rings.

Honda's sometimes smoke a lil in vtec, or they smeel like burning oil, its just there nature.

I would prepare to throw new rings and seals in.
