correct. they'll give you a blank acura key and cut it, just bring in your registration and ID. If you want to order a key with a uber cool red acura emblem I want to say they charge like 70 just for the blank key before programming it. I just get the normal run of the mill key for the 2000's+ but I have the ITR boyracer key for the 98, got it cut in Danville, VA for $0
The parts store at Delray Acura says that the key itself lists for $20 (their price $15). The reason for the higher cost is not the key itself, but rather, the need to program the key/immobilizer combination so that the chip in the key will communicate with the immobilizer ECU in that particular car.

I know my memory isn't completely failing me (just forgetting the exact prices), there are two chipped keys you can get from acura. One has white stamping and is reasonably priced and another with the same stuff just stamped in red which I can recall being priced drastically different.

thanks for helping out itrsteez i've been doing some research for a while now trying to find the key with the red acura logo but no luck...do you happen to know the part number? the only info i found out on it was that in other cars it's used as a learning key to reprogram the immobilizer or something like that...
