Default Weight reduction question

hey guys i got a 1991 crx Si... Currently i have removed the complete ac assembly from the engine, i have removed all the interior panels except for the dash and radio bezel... i took out all carpeting and sound deadening material..

my question is how much should my car weigh?

only upgrade has been aftermarket catback exhaust

i am thinking about ditching my sunroof as well...

thanks

It should weigh as much as you want it to weigh. I've seen some at 1200lbs. Probably more out there with less. Just keep taking everything useless out. Rear seat assemblies, take out the windows and put in aftermarket windows theres a certain brand that I cant think of the name of currently that everyone does when they drop some pounds. Theres a ton you can do to remove lots more weight.

why don't you find the stock weight of your 91 si from some old specs sheet you can prob find online as a PDF, Weigh all the stuff you took off and take the diffrence and you'll get your aprox weight?

you may have removed 60 lbs at most. That stuff is not very heavy. Attack the doors, hatch, bumper supports, sunroof, and all of your glass for some noticable weight reduction.

silly kid, should have just got an 88. It weighs less than yours with a/c and an interior.
Why did you remove the interior? You've killed the resale for 5lbs at most.

91 si is the heaviest crx ever made
**EPIC FAIL**

an SI is a shame to be stripped. its almost a waste of time, considering its the heaviest to begin with, what with the sunroof and all. have you taken that out yet?
FYI - People will pay a lot of money to get an SI interior back to stock, I don't know why you would ruin it.

Its you're car, but I like my cars as complete and functional as possible

if i am going to put thousands into this car i will start by making it as light as possible.. this isnt a thread where i asked for peoples 2 cents, if u cant answer my question then take off... and crx's are hard to come by where i live.. So i will take my gutted crx and continue to ask the same question as before, back to the topic of weight reduction.. call it as stupid as you wont but if you dont understand power to weight ratio or how to free up more hp then blow me

Like I mentioned before, sunroof adds weight. door panels, power windows, dash board, bumpers, glass. You could also get carbon fiber hood + mirrors then you'd be a cool kid

Hey man to each his own it's your car do what you want, also though serious question. Are you willing to sell all the a/c components you took out? I'm looking for a full setup. Trying to put it into a project car that didnt come factory with it.

the ac stuff was in rough shape... and someone told me i only removed 60 lbs... the entire interior is down to metal.. no sound deadeding material, that **** is heavy. no spare no jack, no ac system or mounting plates, one fan no condenser..removed headliner and soon to remove sunroof once on i decide what i will do to the hole

this must be 100 lbs there? right?

For just drag racing you can still remove everything a/c and heat related under the dash and the dash itself, remove front and rear swaybars, rear wiper, stereo & speakers and antenna, fender splash guards, window glass, passenger seat, passenger side mirror, passenger seatbelt, fuel door lid and cables & hatch cables, hatch supports, horn, cut up the bumper supports, cut out the door braces, windshield washer system, windshield wipers/motor/linkage. Post some pics too.

No ps in a crx. And with that said, you only free up like 2hp

wow what a bunch of haters!

Wish i still had my old 91 si id go snap some pics for ya. i put mine on a diet and got it under 2050 wet. which is still heavy for a crx
Try a few of these (ones i had the most benefit/effort)

Take out the front bumper support make a new one from your local hardware store. ebay used to have a ton of HF ones for sale. you can drop the one in back and do the same thing. but i choose not to. I live in AZ, 40% uninsured motorist rate.

Get your hands on a set of 88-89 si door panels and stock seat belts. and ditch the old ones and sell yours. people will buy them. then remove the upper panel where the 88-89 seat belts are bolted behind the door. you will notice your 91 si has the holes there but no threads. Hardware store again! have a friend weld in a couple nuts and your good. the bottom bolts, door side should already be there.

the sunroof is a good 35bls, i kept mine.

the hatch glass is heavy. check Fal they make replacement glass but its pricey but well worth it for a stock look.

I also stripped everything but the heater core and blower under the dash and tossed the AC.

Thats really about all your gonna be able to do inexpensively. Hope this helps.

Yes. But I think the better way to ask this question is, "Is the weight saved with a carbon fiber hatch (vs. the stock hatch) worth the cost?"

The curb weight (car with all equipment and full fluids) for the 91 CRX Si is 2174 lbs.

I have actually weighed my car. My 91 CRX Si weighs 2122 lbs (w/o driver), with a 65/35% weight distrubtion Front/Rear.

If you really want to shed some weight, try to find the following in carbon fiber or fiberglass:
-hood
-fenders
-mirrors (the smaller/more aerodynamic, the better. Less drag)
-bumpers
-hatch
-doors
You can also:
-Remove the sunroof and buy a carbon fiber sunroof plug. The sunroof weighs about 28 lbs. try http://www.lighterfaster.com
-Light weight racing wheels
-Replace rear window/Hatch glass with lexan
-Replace door glass with lexan

But by doing all of the above, you are pretty much turning your vehicle into a race-only car. Take a look at the SS works CRX. It weighs 720kg, or approximately 1587 lbs.
