How do you clean your air boost valve?
Really, I meant how do you take it off more than how to clean it. I see there are two openings, top and bottom and I'm not sure if something is gonna come apart when I open it up as if it has some spring attachments in it.
um i dont know what is an air boost valve, if it is what im thinking of on the im on the driver side on the top corner there is a spring, but you dont need to clean it I have a 90 and I just checked it last week and it is still clean never touched it
I didn't. I don't think it's something that needs to be clean so I'm not bothering. I can't find anything anywhere and I don't want to mess anything up.

Thank you holmesmanny. Air Boost Valve. So that's what it's now called. I've been using an old Haynes book that calls it the Starting Air Valve. I know it has a diaphragm of some kind in it, but I need to know how it's supposed to be checked for proper operation. My Haynes book from circa 1994 says:
"The Starting Air Valve supplies additional air to the intake manifold to ease engine starting. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply vacuum to the Starting Air Valve and check that it holds vacuum. If the valve diaphragm leaks, replace it with a new part."
That section of the book requires the engine be running for most of the tests, but the book does not specify if the engine should be running for that test. I tried it both ways.
With the engine running my Air Boost Valve has powerful vacuum, but with the engine off and even a small or substantial amount of vacuum applied to it by the hand vacuum pump, it immediately bleeds back down to zero.
Does anyone have a more well written manual that talks about how to test the Air Boost Valve / Starting Air Valve and how to interpret the results?
