We use Honda provided oil in my daily driver, and Amsoil in my track car.
The main reason we use Amsoil in my track car has more to do with Victor Perri (https://honda-tech.com/forums/member...=getinfo&u=764) being a distributor than it has to do with preferring Amsoil to Royal Purple or anything else. We change the oil frequently enough that any advantage is lost that more expensive oils would have to Amsoil or any other high quality synthetic.
If you're talking about a track car or race car and you want to extend the life of the motor beyond three seasons, then you can get into the exact analyses that you'll find at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/cms/ . :-) You can talk about this for years and still blow your motor for a reason that has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the oil you were using!
If you do not care how much money you spend on your oil, then there are a hell of a lot of hard core racers, Honda Challenge, Grand AM, GT and ALMS drivers who will only use Motul Racing oils. My K20A(*) track car started life on this, but it is expensive and hard to come by unless you live in a major metro area on top of somebody who's become a distributor just to keep himself in oil.
the 40 weight might not be a good idea because I thought in the manual it only goes up to 30 weight.
If the oil is too thick and the tolerances for the rings and bearings are not designed for it then it might not be the best thing.
I use amsoil 0w-30
Really sick of these threads. Oil is oil, only major difference is between synthetic and non-synthetic, and weight. Sure there may be minor chemical differences, but lets be honest, if you change it regularly and don't race your car it doesn't matter.
5w-30 royal purple. I used to use Mobil 1 5w-30 but after I switched to RP I don't think I'll be going back. Many nay-sayers will disagree but I felt a small gain in power especially at high rpm.
I saw an old episode of horse power tv and they changed the tranny fluid, rear end fluid and oil with royal purple on an old camaro and gained 12 hp. The camaro was old and had shitty fulid so it would have a much better effect than in your late model car that already had decent fluids.
