Default K24a4 Any Good?

I found a complete one for $250 bucks. And I know its kinda already poopy cause its an element motor. But the motor is so much more boostible stock than my h22a1. Should I think about buying it? I can afford mounts and axles so dont comment. I know how much the swap cost.

If you want to be one of the few with a K swapped prelude then go for it. I was thinking about gathering up K parts over a period of time to maybe put together a K24 with the head from a K20 Si since at the dealer we get motor swaps from time to time that I could scavenge from.

I wasnt even going to do a head swap. I was just going to keep the k24a4 head.

If you got the time and money I'd say go for it, it's your car anyways, and let us know how much power you can put into that stock motor, GL.

The VTEC system is different on the K24a4. There is no low, mid, or high lobes. During non VTEC operation, only intake valve opens, then when VTEC kicks in, both intake valves open. There is no VTEC on the exhaust side. A head swap may be beneficial.

It may be beneficial. But I dont want to spend all that money on a new head, when I can get good power without it.

lol. the only way to run a k24a4 motor in the lude is with a tsx 6 speed tranny unless you are making custom mounts. the only mount company that makes the conversion mounts is hasport and it requires the tsx transmission. the tsx 6 speed that i purchased for my 94 bb4 was $900 before shipping which seemed to be a good price from what ive seen. the mount kit from hasport is $550, the axles from hasport are $250, you will need custom wiring, if you plan on tuning the motor (which i highly suggest since you are planing on boosting a stock motor you should at least have a good tune) you will probably want to go kpro ($700-900 used). also, even if you are buying a stock motor you may want to consider an oem rebuild. i dont trust used oil pumps personally and the k24a4 oil pump isnt as effecient as the k20a2 oil pump. the k24a4 also uses balance shafts that can be removed if you switch to the k20a2 unit (k20a2 oil pump - $150). then figure in the price for turbo parts. if you plan on having a/c or power steering you will need all custom lines and you will need a after market traction bar such as the esp traction bar. the oem one is 2 large and prohibits a/c and power steering. you will also need a custom header made or an aftermarket one for a civic/integra modified to work with a prelude...the k24a4 long blocks are pretty cheap. i got mine for $400 with everything even the wiring harness but everything else to make it work in a prelude makes the swap a bit more pricey.

they are right when they said that the vtec is completely different in the k24a2 and k20a2 and the z3 i think when motors compared to all of the other k series motors. just from the head swap alone you are looking at a very large power gain.

i am currently building a k24a4 block/k20a2 head/tsx 6 speed for my rhd prelude in my build thread (link in sig). i am going n/a but you should be able to get some idea of the swap if you follow along the build thread and you arent planning on completing this build for a while.

Cool. The info about only the TSX tranny working was sweet. And about having to run custom lines is good info. Just trying to prepare myself and get and idea of what I might have to do..

This is a noob question tho. As you know, the 4th gen ludes have about 2 million vaccum hoses. And I know on the k24a4 there are not ports for all those hoses to go to. SO what do you do with the hoses that do not connect to the motor? Or will those ones just go away once you get rid of the H22? I just have alot of noob small questions. Thanks Zac.

the vacuum hoses are there to support the motor that you have. you will only need to use vacuum hoses necessary for the k swap if any... the others should be able to be removed completely. i havent got to this portion of the swap yet so i will update my build thread with that as soon as i do.

Oh ok that makes sense. Well good luck and keep us updated. You should make a thread about how to swap a K into a lude. hahaha... The K swap into a lude seems to be a little more difficult than others.

I've been in that car... it's insane. He put that swap in a EG hatch, full cage, etc. Pretty sick. Don't hate, boosted K24 is nuts.

it might make amazing power for what it is but how reliable is it? i dont see the stock bearings or rods or anything oem lasting for very long with over 500 whp especially on a car that is frequently driven hard.

I actually just wanted like 300 HP.. Lol thats it.

But I think we are going to hold off until we fix the body. Then maybe a K20. But IDK.

you arent able to use a k20 block... the mounts only work on a k24 block and the tsx tranny.
good idea to fix the rust issues and body before concerning yourself with the motor swap considering you already have a working h22 in the car.
