Clear coat issue '06 Civic
I have an '06 Civic coupe in Galaxy Silver. I noticed a few months ago that my clear coat was cloudy in a few spots. I have kept an eye on it and it is getting worse; pretty much the whole roof clear coat is affected now.
I am going to take it in to Honda and get it looked at but I want some info on the quality of the paint finish in these models and any expectations of the support from Honda. I want to know if there are any official statements regarding the finish or if there is anyone who has been able to get this issue resolved through Honda.
The car is garaged about half the time (I am a firefighter and work in the desert. At work I have no way to keep the car under cover). Most of the miles are highway miles in SoCal. I wax the car about every four to six months. The only issues with the clear coat I have noticed are on the roof and on the lip spoiler.
Any help/advice would be welcome.

well, along with all of the other issues these POS 8th gens have, the clear on the roof of my wife's si is failing now.
these cars are such piles of **** now, i really can't believe it. her first one was lemoned and was a total turkey, and this one, which replaced it, hasn't been much better.

Thank you for the well thought out and mature answer. I take it you work for Honda and are tired of the complaints about poor craftsmanship/products? Or are you just an idiot who likes to troll posts and reply in a totally non-productive manner?
No, I won't "quit bitching" I paid alot of money for this car and I expect the paint to last longer than my freakin' payment book.
You have an issue with that?

Well I would recomend trying a polishing compound, color compound and waxing it with paste wax. I would try that first. Then I suggest going to a body shop and have it wet sanded and recleared. Sholdnt be to bad for just the roof.

Without any photos, we won't know if it is a clear coat issue or a maintainence issue.
Have you tried the Vanilla Moose Hand Wax Glaze, by ClearKote?

If the clear coat is peeling you can not do anything with it except have it refinished.
If you just have spots that are cloudy looking, try using a clear coat polishing compound, I used 3M fine cut clear coat compound, on my old 88 corvette and it worked to get rid of the haze on the hood my black corvette.
You can use a wheel or do it by hand, once you cut the clear coat be sure to polish it and wax it afterward.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Honda Paint Job. These cars are great, but the paint is a little substandard for my liking.
If your clear coat is cloudy (not peeling), Here's some steps for ya
-Wash the car with regular car wash soap and Dawn,
-Wash again with a car wash soap that has wax in it (carnuba beads, McG's Goldclass, ect)
-Dry the car and clay bar it.
-Treat the car with 3M Hand Glaze compund.
-Wax with a high end car wax (McG's, NTX, or something to that effect)
-Periodically use a spray detailer.
Now if the coat is peeling, get that ish redone. Maybe at a BMW dealership. I heard those guys use like 11 or 12 coats or something like that.

I saw this Nissan Paint at the Sema show last year. You scratch it and it heals itself with some sort of liquid. It was crazy cool yo.
And I fell you with the orange peel. Things have changed.
