i have a 1992 civic sedan DX with an automatic transmission. ive already come to the realization that i really cant do much to beef up my car. but does anyone have any suggestions? thanks
There are a few things you can do. Being an automatic transmission, it's not really worth it until you do a manual swap, but it's your choice. You can get racing headers, high flow exhaust system and an air intake. Hope this helps.
id suggest doing a d16z6 swap with an ex 5 speed tranny. but even then, your only taking about 1.5 seconds off your 1/4 mile time in the long run.
save up about $2000 and build a turbo D series.
easy....you build the bottom end you can keep the stock head setup for now unless you have extra money to throw..but stay in the stock redline..then peice together ur own turbo kit(its cheaper) do lots of research though you will also need to upgrade soem other stuff like fuel pump, injectors, chipped ecu or somesort of management...then get a GOOD TUNE...MOST IMPORTANT PART.

Gotta pay to play.
That's why I said to save up around $2000. If you don't know what you need to increase performance, then you should just save your money and do a lot of research. Because you defiently aren't ready for a turbo install, or a swap. Nor do I think you are ready, experiance wise to drive such a car.

The #1 best performance mod that you can possibly do to that car is an EX/Si manual transmission swap. Anything else is a waste of time, money, and effort until you do that.
Unless you do a B-series engine swap and convert it to manual at that time.

But to do that he will have to grind the tranny bracket off and weld the manual one on. To my knowlege they don't make a conversion bracket for auto 2 manual b series swap in a eg
I'll have to remember not to ever buy an auto EG.
keep it as a beater and save your money to either get a 5spd one or convert to 5spd and go from there. A 4dr auto civic dx isn't going to go fast anytime soon unless you save up your money and do it right. If you buy an exhaust system, you're just gonna have a loud 4dr automatic car that is still relatively slow.
Ls(b18b1) swap, with gsr(b18c1) 5spd trans. Call it a day. With the swap ****, youll prolly still be under
1000... then your in the magical stock b series internals land.

Although Auto is actually the best for more dragway (because it shifts gears faster then the average driver using manual) applications.
You should consider picking up a quick trade; painter or building decks/fences, and use the money to either do a manual swap (requires about $1000 for tranny, clutch and welding if done by yourself and parts taken from scrapper) or just pick up a project 5 spd and take all the useful parts of the auto and plant it in the new ride.
Best of luck.

Si/ex dropout. I found one for 500once. Their out there
i had a turbo auto d series the automatic did not hold up long and i had a tranny cooler with a fan on it. the fluid would need changed very often as well. you can do 5 spd swaps yourself for like 600 bux for everything and tranny if you look around. that's how much i paid for mine. then boost your stock d series to 10psi. i ve been running 10psi on my stock z6 for 2 yrs now with no problems. stock block can make 200hp reliably. goodluck. with the auto before my turbo my best mods were headers/hi flow cat/and hks hi power exhaust. that was the only thing i noticed power from before my turbo..
