Default Need Help! Car wont start

Hey i have a 93 eg hatch with a d16 in it and it wont start. I checked to see if i have fuel and spark and came to the conclusion i have neither. The fuel pump does not come on at all. But i took a jumper wire from battery positive on the main relay connector and connected it straight to the fuel pump and it turned on. I checked the main relay and it is good. I even bought a brand new one. I am totally out of ideas and is wondering if anybody can help out.

Check whether fuse 31, 24, or 18 is blown.

Check whether the G101 ground wire attached to the thermostat housing is clean and tight.

Any CEL codes? Does the CEL stay on steady with the key in ON(II)?

No, a disconnected ECT sensor won't prevent a start. Jump the connector and pull the CEL codes. Does the CEL remain on steady after blinking code 6 or does code 6 just repeat?

Thread jack alert

My 00 em1 just died on me yesterday. I checked the maun relay and thought that was bad, so I went and bought a new one and installed it today. Still no go. I wnet through the diagnosit tests until I got to testing the fuel pump. I followed those instructions and jumped the 5 & 6 at the relay plug and didn't get any voltage at the fuel pump. The instructions tell me to check the groung for the fuel tank. What ground am I looking for?

OK ill do that. Im not using the regular ecu. Im using a p75. Would that cause it not to start too because i heard somewhere that a p75 would allow it to run.

Hi. Have you check your coil? If you have fuel, correct fuel presure, spark and timing belt is ok it should start. Sometimes a low coil may be tricky, spark should be almost white, not yellow and yes try with the original ecu first.

[QUOTE=RonJ@HT;43035248]Check the mechanical timing.

Do you have a diagram for checking the timing on a DOHC B18C? I got a new distributor and it was giving me a CEL 4 for the crank angle sensor, it wants to start but sounds out of timing until the CEL comes in and then just cranks, any ideas?

First fix CEL code 4 for the CKP sensor in the distributor.

Mechanical timing:

[QUOTE=RonJ@HT;43124411]First fix CEL code 4 for the CKP sensor in the distributor.

I have replaced the distributor and still have the code 4, I checked resistance of the sensor and it is aprox 360 ohms, I have yet to check if the wires from the connection to the distributor to the ECU. but if they are good, which i think they will be do you have any other ideas? Second question, about the timing, if the cam gears point up and match the TDC marks, and the crank pulley is off a bit, maybe 10 or 15 degrees, is there play in the pulley or is it keyed with the timing gear? thanks

There is probably a short or open in one of the two CKP sensor wires that run to the ECU. Check that first. If the wires are fine, however, you need to try swapping in a known good ECU.

Sounds like the mechanical timing may be off by a tooth.

Hi, Yes a 10- 15 degree off is too much, your timing is off by one teeth. In some vehicles that can give you a crank angle code. Fix your timing first write us back.
