Let me know how it goes. I use stainless wool, as it handles the very high temps that come with short sections near welds. If this stuff can handle 700-800 Degrees, then it will work.

from talking to the guys the sealing rings can handle 500* so they recommend welding 2-3 inches away from the plug. sealing rings are replaceable.

I have access to a tube expander so I expand some stainless tube and weld up one end to make caps.

silicone cap plugs. they come in a wide variety of sizes. if one doesn't fit on the outside, a different size may fit on the inside. they also go well over oval shapes, or to fill rectangular turbo flange ports. i just punch a hole in one and feed the copper pipe from my purge setup through so it has a snug fit. i use them all the time and haven't melted one bad enough i had to throw it out yet... and if it does melt a bit, just let it cool down before you remove it and it won't leave any goo on your metal.

In a pinch, or a really odd hole, you can use...TOAST!

Sounds funny, but it will fit any reasonable hole size/shape, seal well, and take lots of heat. The outside just gets crispy and eventually leaks a tad if too close to the weld.

got the set in, looks pretty sweet. was going to weld some titanium that just came in and then i remembered that i filled up my 2nd 280 tank with helium because i gotta weld an assload of intercoolers... DOH.
i'll have to either pick up a 3rd tank tomorrow or wait untill i empty out the helium. fire dept already looked at me sideways with 2 280 tanks, wonder what they'll say when i get a 3rd LOL
