Default Lane Wandering Accord

Hi
I have a 1999 2.0ies Accord Coupe in the UK.

I recently took it on a highway and struggled to keep the car in it's lane when going above 60mph. The steering kept pulling left and right, so the car kept wandering. At 70mph it was nearly impossible to control and I had to hold on very tight to the steering wheel to keep it from moving out of lane.

What could this be? The car only started doing this yesterday and was perfectly fine a few weeks ago when travelling at 70mph.

The tyres all seem fine, the tyre pressure is ok and the same in each one. The only thing I think it could be (but am not sure) is that I've replaced one of the tyres at the back with a new one. Could that be the cause?

Below 60mph the car is perfectly fine.

Thanks
d

make sure your radius rod bushings and nuts are still intact and tight. Sounds like you may be having a caster issue. also, if your rear tires are different diameters, that could cause some of the problem. They can be the same tires, but if one has signigicantly more tread, the diameters will be different. I don't think that's the problem, or at least the whole problem.

Could be worn out ball joints or maybe sway bar link bushings.

Hi Guys

I feel like an idiot. I checked the tyre pressure in all four tyres and it was well out of whack. Looks like I had a slow puncture on the one tyre without realising. Another new tyre on the back and pumped them up and it did the trick.

I'm loving my coupe again...

Needs a good alignment. I remember this discussion in Auto Tech.

Bad endlinks bushing will not cause a car to wander to "nearly impossible to control" like the OP had said. I took out both my front endlinks for almost a week due to their bushing deterioration, so basically my car has no front sway bar, and it does not wander to where you can't almost control the car.

Good to hear that you got it taken care of. Enjoy your car.
