well im replacing the rings in my brothers b20. the compression #'s where good but it started smoking alot. i got one of and out and the oil control rings are gummed up and stuck. anyway im gonna replace the rod bearings to but ive never had rod caps this tough to get off. ive tried for a 1/2 hour on just #1 cylinder. remember the motor is still in the car so that limits me!! any help from more experienced people would be great.

If the rod cap nuts are off, I would use the handle of a rubber mallet to tap the bolts so it pushes the piston/rod up towards the head. You need just a little separation for the dowels to dislodge. Hopefully, that makes sense.

Is the head off?
